Sur les pas de Jésus, nous avons marché

 

Du 17 au 30 mars 2019, un groupe de pèlerins s’est envolé de Montréal pour se rendre en Terre Sainte. Une fois de plus, on m’a donné le privilège d’être pour eux l’accompagnateur spirituel. C’était la première fois qu’un groupe anglophone partait sous le leadership du Commissariat de Terre Sainte du Canada. Du désert du Néguev, en passant par la Galilée et la Judée, nous avons marché sur les pas du peuple de Dieu et, en particulier, sur ceux de Jésus. Mon cœur bat encore d’avoir visité Nazareth, Jérusalem, Jéricho et combien d’autres endroits qui font rêver…

 

Après avoir fait l’expérience de la Terre Sainte, il est vrai, on ne peut plus lire la Parole de Dieu de la même manière. Chaque village mentionné, chaque montagne est désormais enregistré dans notre mémoire. Il suffit de dire « Capharnaüm » pour que notre souvenir nous ramène inévitablement au bord du lac de Galilée. Là, Mathieu a quitté son bureau de collecteur d’impôts, et le paralytique, transporté par ses compagnons, est descendu auprès de Jésus.

 

Pour ma part, c’était la première fois que je voyais ce pays après un hiver excellent. Pour la Galilée, cela veut dire : beaucoup d’eau et de pluie. Partout la nature était abondante : verdure, plantes, fleurs et oiseaux! Jamais je n’avais vu autant de fraîcheur et de couleurs dans ce pays. Je dirais même que les nuits étaient fraîches, et certaines journées, franchement humides. Globalement, le temps était doux et agréable.

 

Si on exclut une ou deux journées, nous avons pu marcher dans les pas de notre Maître sans trop de soucis. Les tables étaient accueillantes et bien garnies; les cœurs, tout autant. J’ai de merveilleux souvenirs de voir le soleil se lever à l’aube au Mitzpe Ramon, un magnifique point de vue sur la falaise d’un cratère dans le désert. Quelques jours plus tard, le soir, quand nous revenions au Kibboutz Deganai (Vallée du Jourdain), ce sont des odeurs d’orangers et d’arbres fruitiers qui nous accueillaient. Chaque jour, nous nous arrêtions sur une hauteur, afin d’admirer le paysage et d’apprécier le pays de Jésus.

 

Cette année, nous avons eu plusieurs coups de cœur. Les villes de Nazareth, Jéricho et Bethléem, figurent très haut sur la liste des visites qui se sont passées admirablement bien. Parmi les plus belles visites, en fait — et je fais cela depuis 10 ans ! Et puis, bien sûr, le magnifique parc national du mont Arbel, que nous visitions alors qu’il était luxuriant de plantes et de fleurs. D’en haut, nous avons pu contempler la Galilée de Jésus et le grand lac de Tibériade. Plus tard, nous avons pu faire une belle croisière sur l’eau, pouvant embrasser d’un seul regard tous ces endroits qui frappent l’imagination : la vallée du Jourdain, Magdala, le mont des Béatitudes, Capharnaüm, Bathsaida, etc. Inoubliable.

 

Et puis, la Judée n’en finit pas de nous couper le souffle : son désert, ses montagnes cultivées ou arides, sa belle grande ville de Jérusalem. En 2015, j’ai demeuré 3 mois à Jérusalem. J’ai arpenté ses rues presque sans arrêt et je n’ai pas tout vu ! Plus de 3000 ans d’histoire, ce n’est pas rien ! Et je ne parle pas encore de la nouvelle ville (qui est aussi très belle et remplie de beaux endroits à visiter). Marcher dans la Vielle ville de Jérusalem est toujours une expérience en soi. Je me rappelle d’un mot d’humour, dans la ville de naissance de François d’Assise : « Si les Franciscains pouvaient bien se taire, ce sont les pierres qui chanteraient les louanges de François! ». C’est l’impression que nous avons aussi dans certaines de ces vieilles villes : il suffit de s’arrêter de parler, pour que tout ce pays chante la gloire de Rabbi Jésus (et combien d’autres grands personnages de la Bible).

 

On ne peut parler de Jérusalem sans y évoquer le Golgotha et le Saint-Sépulcre, le sommet de notre pèlerinage. Quel bonheur que d’y célébrer la messe et de pouvoir marcher dans les couloirs d’un édifice dont les fondations remontent à Jésus lui-même. J’y ai déjà passé des journées entières; je suis toujours heureux d’y retourner avec des pèlerins. Pour moi, c’est l’une des joies les plus intenses de chaque pèlerinage.

 

Nous étions un beau petit groupe (17 personnes), des quatre coins du Canada. Certains venaient des Maritimes, d’autres de Vancouver ou du centre du pays. Nous représentions bien la diversité de nos cultures et de nos régions. Ce fut un voyage des plus enrichissants. Pour ma part, j’ai eu le bonheur de mieux connaître un confrère de l’Inde, Regi Matthew, qui vient d’arriver à Montréal (nouveau Curé de St. Francis of Assisi, petite paroisse anglophone). J’ai pu apprécier sa délicatesse et son sens du service. Un grand merci à notre guide Rebecca Nokrian, qui a été, pour nous tous, une mère et une professionnelle de premier plan. Un autre pèlerinage sur les pas de Jésus qui restera à jamais inscrit dans nos mémoires.
